1 Define the Problem
The first step is to exposit the problem and make it clear; typify the problem by differentiating the symptoms from the root causes so that a concentrated understanding is created.
2 Analyze the Situation
The next step is a systematic investigation and research, which will result in the gathering of relevant data, examining the context and assessing the factors contributing to the problem.
3 Generate Alternative Solutions
Come up with many possible solutions taking both creative and analytical thinking into account but without judging any of them at this stage in order to open up more options.
4 Evaluate Alternatives
Evaluate each option with respect to its practicality, costs, advantages, and probable negative outcomes using such criteria as effectiveness, efficiency, and resource needs.
5 Select the Best Solution
On the basis of the evaluations, take the most appropriate solution together with stakeholder support and considering the organization's goals and limitations.
6 Develop an Action Plan
Design the implementation of the solution in detail with an action plan that specifies the steps to be taken, the time frames, the resources, the persons responsible, and the milestones.
7 Implement the Solution
Carry out the action plan in an orderly manner, keep track of the progress made, and make adjustments if necessary while still communicating with the stakeholders.
8 Evaluate Results
Evaluate the results in terms of the objectives set, pinpoint the lessons learned, and decide whether or not subsequent rounds are necessary to reach a perfectly optimized output.
