🔄 Diversify Problem Types
Instead of solving all problems of one type and then switching to another type, randomly alternate between different categories, topics or concepts.
🤔 Recognize the Appropriate Strategy
Before actually working on the problem, deliberately analyze which problem-solving technique or concept is appropriate for each problem and categorize it accordingly.
✅ Self-Test and Confirm
Immediately check your answers after solving the problems and examine the mistakes to figure out which concepts or strategies led to the errors.
🧩 Establish Significant Links
During interleaving, actively compare and contrast the different concepts to find the similarities, differences, and connections between areas.
⏸️ Do Not Take Quick Re-attempts
After mastering a problem, do not solve similar problems immediately. Go on to different types of problems to get the most out of spacing and retrieval difficulty.
📝 Think About Your Thinking
Give metacognitive reflection a try by thinking of the reasons why certain strategies are working for certain problems and writing down the patterns that you find.
💪 Galvanize Productive Struggle
Interleaving will be tough and demanding, but we should take it as a challenge and a chance to be developed cognitively, not as a reason to seek immediate comfort or fluency.
